An illustrated catalogue of some of the various worlds found in the civilised galaxy; part of the Orion’s Arm Worldbuilding Project;

These illustrations have been produced using the Celestia Space Simulator.

Alien Worlds

Several alien species have been discovered during the expansion of the Orion's Arm civilisation; some are limited to a single solar system, some have interstellar empires of their own; the most advanced species yet encountered is that of the Meistersingers, who have a migration route near the edge of the Outer Volumes, but do not seem inclined to share their extensive knowledge of the Galaxy beyond the OA sphere.

To'ul'h

The first intelligent alien species discovered, the To'ul'hs live in the dense atmosphere of a Venus-like planet; this planet has a rich atmoshperic phytoplankton ecology, so also has a relatively large oxygen component. Many To'ul'hs have embraced human culture in all it's diversity, and there are To'ul'hiformed worlds throughout the OA sphere, as well as many adapted clades of To'uls able to live in Earth-like conditions or zero-gee. Some have transcended, or become human-shaped or hybrid to'ul'humans.

Here the grey-green world of To'ul'h can bee seen, with the open cluster NGC 6633 less than twenty light years away,

The Kemmerer Sentient Ecology

This image shows the Kemmerer restriction swarm; the alien biosphere discovered here is collectively conscious and capable of constant self redesign; the smaller individual units have shown themselves to be both sarcastic and violent, and the self designing ecology seems ready and able to eliminate biological competitors on a whim. For this reason no access is permitted to this planet and no information genetic or otherwise is allowed to leave.

The Muuh and The Epp (in the Pluton Volume)

The ancient, slow-moving, cold planet alien species known as the Muuh  and the Epp (a subspecies of the so-called Soft Ones) both have extensive empires of their own to rimward, but with much slower metabolisms based on methane and ammonia they are less expansive than the Human derived Orion's Arm civilisation.

In the Pluton Volume in Perseus the Human, Muuh and Epp races are engaged in building a co-operative development zone, which was briefly torn asunder by the events of the Epp War.

--------------------------------

The Lignosagittae

The Lignosagittiae, a non-sentient alien phylum from a Europan-subtype ice/ocean world has been raised to sentience by the Zoeific Biopolity and the Genen; many have migrated to the Ring Nebula, others to Panthalassa and similar waterworlds.

Rheolithoids

The first geophysical image of two 'living' Rheolithoids, a selforganising life-like geological phenomenon found on an Io subtype world; these entities have also been raised to sentience by the Silicon Generation, a powerful independent robot House.

------------------------------

The Cybiota

The Cybyota, or Cybiota, of the Vela-Puppis region, appear to be an artificial alien terraforming swarm which appeared in this section of the galaxy thirteen million years ago. The species within the swarm communicate by direct data transfer as well as by more normal methods, but have evolved or drifted away from their original design and no longer actively terraform planets. One General Purpose species - the GPs or Jeepers- have developed individual sentience and have developed the Cybyotan seedcraft into interplanetary transport ships.

A Cybyotan Seedship launching another of its detached organic shields. These are only launched for interstellar flight, although the Jeepers have adapted them as aerobrakes for interplanetary journies.

The Mucoid Tubeworms

An alien species found in a abandoned starship near Kappa Cassiopeia; they are hivemind  worms which are being accomodated temporarily in a virtual environment until they can be integrated into Orion's Arm society.

The Jade Chime Singers

A chlorine breathing species, which has evolved on one of the apparently artificial halogen worlds near the Butterfly Cluster.
